Recipe | Chocolate Chip Cookies from Marilyn on Verde Blvd at Encanterra®
If you have ever stopped by Marilyn’s home you have probably been offered one of her amazing chocolate chip cookies! This recipe was given to Marilyn over 20 years ago by her friend Edna from Franklin, Tennessee. Edna had a daughter the same age as Marilyn’s daughter, Kelly. The girls would play together and enjoy these cookies!
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
2/3 cup Shortening
½ cup Dark Brown Sugar
½ cup Granulated Sugar
1 Egg
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 ½ cups Flour
½ tsp. Baking Soda
½ tsp. Salt
6 ounces Chocolate Chips
½ cup Walnuts, chopped (optional)
Cream the shortening and sugars. Add egg and vanilla and beat thoroughly. Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together and add to the creamed mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Enjoy!

State of the Market at Encanterra®
Shea Preferred Realty Group continues to see tremendous success and growth throughout our community. Our location in the model gallery gives us unparalleled access to buyers. History shows that nearly 100% of all buyers who eventually become members have toured the models, or have been stay and play guests, and most have certainly worked with or toured the models with a Shea Homes® community representative (onsite sales team). Shea Preferred Realty Group is introduced to every single buyer walking through the model gallery. Our current resale listings are also included in every new home packet.
Over the past year, 42 homes have been listed in the community with various agents that have cancelled or expired– meaning they did not sell during their listing period. 19 of those came from outside agents, 20 came from the other inside listing agents and Shea Preferred Realty Group only experienced 3 cancelled or expired listings. Of course, there are many factors and variables but Shea Preferred is very pleased to only account for 7% of the total canceled and expired listings in the past 12 months.
Resale homes are doing well if they are priced at market value, include reasonable options, and are staged to perfection. Shea Preferred has represented nearly 80% of our own buyers in the past 12 months. That simply means buyers are coming to us without agents, and of course, we pass that discount on to our wonderful sellers. Out of the 54 resale pending/closed listings in the community so far this year, only 6 were represented by outside agents, none of which– 0% –represented both the buyer and seller, compared to 80% for Shea Preferred, and 24% for other inside agencies.
Our advantage certainly starts with our team’s ability to attend sales meetings, construction meetings, and design meetings onsite at Encanterra®. This allows us to know what’s going on well in and Lacey is very familiar with Encanterra as she used to work in community. Meet the Neighbors: Mike & Cathy on Azafran at Encanterra®
Mike and Cathy are originally from Northern California. They met each other when Mike came in for a job interview at a pest control company where Cathy was a secretary. Mike was extremely shy and did not ask Cathy out on a date for almost a year. For those of you that know Mike, he is far from shy! They dated for just over 3 years and this month they will be celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary.
During the time they dated, they enjoyed going to country music concerts and spending time with Cathy’s big Italian family. One day Cathy’s precious grandma said to Mike, “You marry my granddaughter…..and until that happens you are not welcome in my home!” You don’t want to cross those Italian grandmas!
Mike is the owner of a successful pest control company called Affordable Pest Services. Cathy is a dental hygienist at a local dentist right around the corner from Encanterra®. If you are in need of pest control or dental work, they have you covered.
Mike and Cathy lived in Arizona for 5 years before discovering Encanterra®. They immediately knew the first time they passed through the front gates of the community that this is where they wanted to be. Cathy said, “It’s like Narnia when those gates open up. You see green grass, trees, water, rabbits and quail. It’s a little piece of Heaven!”
