If you’ve been to a parade, holiday event, or special gathering at Encanterra lately, chances are you’ve seen a group of ladies in sparkly outfits, high energy, and big smiles lighting up the room. That would be the Encanterra Sparkles – a performance group made up of 18 incredible women who are providing joy and movement wherever they go.
The Encanterra Sparkles were created by Starla Scheinman, a longtime lover of dance and performance. Dance has been a passion in her life for as long as she can remember, but it was a movie night that truly sparked this idea.
A few years ago, Starla was watching the film “Poms,” a story about a group of women who form a cheer squad later in life. Something about the storyline and the energy of the group struck a chord with her. She saw more than just a feel-good movie – she saw a vision to do this at Encanterra.
Today, 18 women make up the Sparkles, and they are committed. The group practices twice a week, polishing routines, learning new choreography, and building the kind of confidence that only comes from putting in the work together. They are not just dancing for fun (though they definitely have plenty of that). They perform regularly at Encanterra community events and in local parades, and they also take their talents outside the community to bring joy to residents in local nursing homes.
The Sparkles are not just beloved by Encanterra residents – they are getting recognized outside the community as well. Recently, the Encanterra Sparkles performed in the East Valley Veterans Parade, a special event honoring those who have served our country. Their performance was a hit, and they were awarded the Best Entertainment Award in the parade. That award is a reflection of more than just great choreography. It speaks to the heart they bring to every routine, their dedication to honoring others, and the joy they share with every crowd they meet.
The Sparkles’ next big performance will be right here at home. Their upcoming holiday event at Encanterra will take place on December 17 in Mallorca.
It will be a chance for neighbors and friends to come together, celebrate the season, and cheer on this amazing group of women who give so much of their time and talent to our community.
